We recommend the standard thickness of Hinuera stone paving is laid over a concrete base. It can be used on deck jacks but the stone needs to be a minimum of 40mm thick. The standard sizes are 300 x 300 x 20/25mm, 400 x 400 x 20/25mm, 500 x 500 x 20/25mm, 600 x 600 x 25mm. Other sizes are available on request.

By 2005 the only working quarry was at Hinuera valley, near Lake Karāpiro. Hinuera stone is cream, buff, or orange-brown, and contains fragments of pumice in a fine-grained matrix. It is hard enough to be used as a building stone, but soft enough to be cut, and is quarried in a similar way to Ōamaru Stone.
